Central Idea:

There are many influences on our wellbeing

Lines of Inquiry:

  1. The different aspects of well-being
  2. Influences on well-being
  3. How choices and life experiences affect our well-being

The five areas of wellbeing:

  1. Emotional – feelings
  2. Social – relationships
  3. Physical – body
  4. Spiritual – beliefs, where you fit in the world, what guides your life, forgiveness (guest speakers?)
  5. Cognitive (Mental Health) – brain

Concepts:

  • Connection – How is it connected to other things?
  • Responsibility – What is our responsibility?
  • Causation – Why is it the way it is?

Summative Task

Part 1 Collage: Create a collage on A3 paper using magazine images that represents things that make you feel happy and healthy. Fill the entire page with no gaps. You can also choose words.

Part 2 Reflection: Choose 6 items from your collage and record what aspect of wellbeing that it affects; physical (body), emotional (feelings), social (relationships), spiritual (beliefs and values) or cognitive (brain).

You can use the template (Summative reflection (regular)) (Summative reflection (modified)) for your reflection and stick it to the back of your collage when you are finished.

    • Feelings are important and necessary in our lives
    • Our feelings change a lot
    • We can understand ourselves better when we know how we are feeling and know the names of our feelings

    • You can change a bad mood into a good mood
    • You can be the boss of your own feelings (Leigh’s song – I’m Boss Of All My Feelings)
    • Being the boss of our feelings is not the same as trying not to have any
    • You need to ask “Did they really mean it?” when you feel hurt and angry
    • Find a safe way to express your feelings that does not hurt anyone
    • Unhelpful thinking makes you feel worse
    • In order to understand other people you need to learn to work out how they
